Chair Announcements
Online Portfolios – a P&T Guidelines committee was formed look at pilot and figure out what worked and didn’t work. Committee members: T Burkholder, S Barnett, C Menoche, and K Meyer
T Burkholder was asked to serve on BOR LMS RFP committee. He will provide updates to the ITC.
IT Announcements
Google Chrome is now the default browser on call campus computers. Blackboard no longer supports IE. Next project is to remove IE from campus computers by the start of the spring 2020 semester.
eSports at CCSU debuted today – it is the only mixed computer lab/gaming dedicated space in the state of CT. It is in Memorial Hall and will be used for academic purposes during the day and gaming in late afternoon and evening. It is a pilot for the fall 2019 semester – feedback and suggestions welcome.
OneDrive to replace personal storage space (M:) for students, faculty, and staff. The target completion date is January 2020. IT will migrate M: drive files to OneDrive at that time. The two biggest advantages to using OneDrive to store your files is 1) they are available to you in the Cloud, wherever you go 2) OneDrive gives you 1 TB (terabyte) of space. Your M: drive only has 25GB.
IDTRC Announcements
Camtasia: Our site license for this screen casting software allows each faculty member to download and install on one CCSU owned computer. The license is valid for 3 years. The software download is available in Software Center on campus computers. Group training will be help in late September.
Magna: A leading provider of higher education professional development resources. CCSU has a one-year license to access unlimited online seminars from Magna. Workshops are being planned.
Raptivity: A rapid activity building tool that provides customizable interactions. The IDTRC is offering free licenses to two faculty who would like pilot the software.
Kaltura: Auto close captioning is coming in January – need to review because it’s not 100% – it’s in the testing stages
Blackboard Ally: Software that shows how accessible your documents are in Blackboard. Issues must be fixed manually but it does give recommendations.
Committee Reports
Web Advisory Committee: It was an ad-hoc committee and is now a standing senate committee. The committee will work on helping to standardize the web pages to give them a consistent look and feel.
Online Student Opinion Surveys: Some students only got one question on their survey – need to have faculty look to make sure the survey is complete. Faculty can preview the survey. Many of the issues have to do with the codes used to generate the questions. For example, the BUS code has no questions. The faculty senate will be appointing someone to help IT with these code issues. Faculty need to be make the policies regarding the surveys. IT will implement but faculty need to make the decisions.
New Business
T Burholder reminded the members of the ITC committee that it is their responsibility to go back to their departments to disseminate/communicate ITC meeting information to deans and faculty members.
